For the twentieth year in a row, the Dart Center for Journalism is offering the Ochberg Fellowship for talented senior and mid-career journalists. The fellowship is intended for professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge of emotional trauma and psychological injury, as well as those who wish to enhance their abilities to report on violence, tragedy, and other conflicts.

The fellowship’s founders recognize that reporting on violence and/or trauma is a major challenge, regardless of whether those tragedies take the form of humanitarian crises, street crime, genocide, or natural disasters. The fellowship provides the ability for twelve exceptional journalists from all around the world to explore these issues during a week of seminars at Columbia University.

During this program, fellows will engage in briefings by prominent interdisciplinary experts in mental health, discussions and collaborations with journalist colleagues, and other opportunities for intellectual development. The fellowship is led by a group of journalists and other mental health professionals from the Dart Center, along with a large group of visiting faculty.

To be eligible, fellows must have at least five years of journalism experience, but can be working across all media. Past work must demonstrate journalistic excellence and a strong track record of covering violence and its overall impact. A majority of the fellows selected will come from North America, with the rest hailing from the Middle East, Africa, the Asia Pacific region, Europe, and Central and South America. All seminars are conducted in English, so fellows must be fluent.

The final group of fellows selected will be chosen on the basis of past journalistic experience and the likelihood of personal and/or professional benefit from the program. This year, the fellowship will take place from July 22 to July 27, 2019. All application materials must be submitted by Wednesday, February 6, 2019. Questions may be directed to programs@dartcenter.org.

Each year, Echoing Green provides over $4.6 million in seed-stage funding and strategic foundational support to leaders who are working to inspire positive social change. The organization invests in business plans, but also in people and the development of their skills. The program recognizes that Fellows are the innovators and pioneers who are needed to inspire positive social change, and provides funding on six different continents.

Fellowships may be in the areas of Health, Hunger and Poverty Alleviation, Racial and Gender Equity, Justice and Human Rights, Environmental Sustainability, Education, or Economic Development. The Global Fellowship is open to any social entrepreneur, while the Black Male Achievement Fellowship is designed to support leaders who are dedicated to improving the outcomes of black men and boys. Finally, the Climate Fellowship is designed for leaders seeking to work with aspects of climate change.

This program provides candidates with access to a life-long community of leaders and mentors, as well as seed funding and dedicated hands-on support. Candidates also receive assistance in setting clear goals as well as executing those goals. Applications for this year’s fellowship are being accepted from October 19 until November 2, 2021. The application process is competitive, yet inclusive and engaging.

All materials will be reviewed in late November, with four hundred candidates accepted past the first application screening. Essays, budgets, and letters of reference will be evaluated at least twenty times, with eighty further finalists selected. In April, finalists will have their names published online and then be promoted in the annual Social Impact Talent Report. They will then be flown to New York for panel interviews, networking events, and workshops.

Thirty fellows will be chosen and will be introduced to partners and other members at the Big Bold Benefit in New York City. Currently, fellows are sought who are innovators or entrepreneurs, s well as those who inspire positive social change. Applications from women, as well as those from racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ communities, and unrepresented U.S. cities or global regions are especially encouraged to apply.

The SIG Program (Summer Institute for the Gifted), located on the picturesque and prestigious Princeton University campus, invites students to apply to one of its two summer sessions. This program, though not affiliated directly with Princeton, allows students to engage with Princeton facilities while studying in a thriving academic, commercial, and creative community.

In this program, students will engage in a wide variety of courses in Humanities, Math, Science, Visual and Performing Arts, Fitness and Recreation, Technology, and Multidisciplinary fields. Students will engage with other gifted students through a combination of academic studies and social activities.

Session One runs from July 22 until August 11, 2018. It is open to students who will be between the ages of thirteen and seventeen before August 31. The program charges $5,795 in residential tuition, with a discount of $900 for commuter students. All payment is due by May 15.

Students will engage in a full-curriculum with a four-period academic day, as well as evening activities, Saturday trips, and weekend activity days.

Students will be housed in Whitman College, one of Princeton’s residential colleges. Students have access to all classrooms and laboratories, the gym, and the exciting community of Nassau Street. Although students will be largely independent, living arrangements are secure and safe. Each student will live with a group of ten to fourteen other students and be supervised by a counselor.

Interested students can apply online by download the SIG Application as a PDF or applying virtually. A non-refundable application fee of $99 is due at the time of application. Although admissions are rolling, students are advised to apply before May 15, 2018, or by May 1 for international students. The admissions process is highly competitive. Students should submit recommendation forms from parents, educators, and other individuals. Most students will also submit a creativity recommendation form. Students must also supply necessary medical and contact information at the time of application. Questions can be directed to Sig.Info@GiftedStudy.org.

Yale University invites high school students aged 13 to 18 to apply to spend the summer at the International Summer School program. This program engages students from over seventy countries in learning, creative, and exciting extracurricular opportunities on the scenic Yale Campus.

This three-week program engages students from all over the world, blending native and non-English students alike. In fact, participation is limited to one nationality representing no more than ten percent of the program population in order to guarantee a truly international experience.

Academic and elective subject courses are taught by qualified professionals, allowing students to benefit from cultural trips, workshops, and other activities. Students are supervised by well-trained summer school counselors who help to facilitate all activities at Yale.

The program is offered in two distinct sessions, with the first running from July 15th to August 5th. Students will stay in traditional dormitory setting, usually one that is centrally located so that students can enjoy all the features the historic, architecturally-renowned campus has to offer.

While attending the summer program at Yale, students will choose one academic and one elective to follow for the three week program. These classes meet daily for three hours and all are exceptionally small, providing for the most individualized attention. Available academic courses include debate, English language, pre-IB, IB extended essay, business and entrepreneurship, youth leadership, creative writing, and journalism.

These courses are combined with hands-on afternoon learning experiences, allowing them to engage in cultural trips and other experiences. Elective experiences include golf, tennis, film, outdoor leadership, theatre, photography, art, and fencing. After courses and electives have ended for the day, students may partake in evening entertainment, highland games, day trips, and other options.

Applications are now being accepted. To apply, interested students should visit https://www.issos.com/apply/. In addition to a complete online application and several supporting documents, a nonrefundable application fee of $500 must also be submitted. Questions may be directed to info@issos.com.
