The Gates Cambridge Scholarship program was founded in 2000 through a generous donation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This program, the largest ever donation to a UK university, awards scholarships to students from over 100 countries and has over 1,000 alumni around the world.

These scholarships are granted to exceptional applicants from countries outside of the UK so that they can pursue postgraduate study in any subject at the University of Cambridge. Scholars should have outstanding intellectual ability and strong leadership potential, as well as a commitment to bettering the lives of others. Applicants should also demonstrate a strong fit between the applicant’s qualifications and goals with the program of study for which they are applying.

To be eligible, candidates must be from any country besides the United Kingdom and have applied for full-time study at the University of Cambridge in a PhD, MSc or MLitt, or one year postgraduate course (such as an MPhil, LLM, MASt, MBA, etc). Current students are also eligible to apply if they are applying for new postgraduate courses. Individuals who are planning on enrolling in a BA, MBBChir Clinical Studies degree, MD Doctor of Medicine degree, part-time degree, or non-degree bearing course are not eligible to apply.

US citizens should apply by October 12, 2022 for the 2023 year. All other applicants should apply by either December 1, 2022 or January 5, 2023 (depending on the intended course of study). Each applicant will be departmentally ranked in October through February (this is done in two rounds) and shortlisted between December and March. Interview will be conducted in late January and late March, with scholarships offered in the next few weeks following those dates. Selected candidates will have forty-eight hours to accept the scholarship award.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is actively seeking potential leaders who are interested in developing their own project ideas and embarking on the experience of a lifetime. The German Chancellor Fellowship is open to students from India, Russia, China, and the United States, and allows scholars to work closely with hosts of their own choosing to build unique projects.

The fellowship features a monthly stipend ranging from 2,170 euros to 2,770 euros, depending on qualifications. It includes attentive individual mentoring during the fellow’s stay in Germany, as well as financial support for family members, travel expenses, and German language study. The fellowship also features cultural study tours of Germany as well as social networking events with representatives from German companies and institutions. Fellows are given the resources to make connections with alumni of the program as well, helping them to collaborate and gain professional experiences.

The fellowship exposes candidates to contemporary issues in their individual fields of study, allowing them to make long-term public impacts. Fellows are expected to expand their knowledge in their topic area while working in Germany, as well as to gain experiences in intercultural skills. Once the fellowship has ended, fellows will act as intermediaries between Germany and their host countries.

The program commences in August in Germany with a significant two-month German language course. Reductions or extensions of this course can be granted if necessary. In October, fellows then move on to a seminar in Bonn and then Berlin. These seminars provide fellows with the training and insights necessary in social, political, economic, and cultural life in Germany. After this period, fellows then work on their individual projects for eleven months.

Eligible candidates are those who completed a first degree less than twelve years ago and are interested in spending a year working on self-designed projects. Applicants should be able to demonstrate that their projects are of social significance. They should also indicate how the project has potential to make connections between Germany and the applicant’s host country. Applicants from the political, economic, media, administration, and cultural sectors are encouraged and invited to apply.

In addition to evidence of a degree completed no more than twelve years ago, fellows must also submit documentation evincing proven leadership experience, as well as a two-page letter of motivation and a three-page project plan. Two references and a host statement must also be supplied. All application materials must be received no later than October 15, 2022.

The Chevening Scholarships were designed as a way to encourage young emerging leaders from all over the globe to pursue one-year programs of graduate study in the United Kingdom. These awards aren’t designed for the typical student – they are designed for individuals who have the influence, heart, and ideas to develop the leadership skills necessary for a brighter future.

These awards are fully funded and cover everything from accommodations, flights, and course fees. As a result, students have the freedom to focus on achieving their career goals while making the most of this impressive experience. Scholars will study and live in the UK for the entire year, during which they will develop both academically and professionally, networking with influential individuals while they experience culture and build positive relationships in the country.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must be citizens of Chevening-eligible territories or countries. Individuals who hold British citizenship of any kind, or those who hold refugee status in a non-eligible country, may not apply. Individuals who are employees or relatives of employees of the British government may not apply, nor may those who have previously studied in the UK with funding from a government-funded award.

Applicants must return to their country of citizenship for at least two years after the award has been completed, and they must have completed all elements of an undergraduate degree required to gain admission to a postgraduate UK university program. Applicants should also have two years of work experience and have applied to three different eligible university courses, with an unconditional offer received by July 16, 2020.

Applications opened on August 3 and the deadline to submit all materials is November 2. Interviews will be scheduled in February 2022, which is also when all references and supporting educational documents are due. Interviews will take place until May 2022, and the results will be announced in June 2022.

Stanford University’s Bechtel International Center invites students to apply for the prestigious Churchill Scholarship.

The Churchill Scholarship provides funding to American students for a year of Master’s study at the University of Cambridge, Churchill College. The program was created by an initiative of Sir Winston Churchill to support his vision of US – UK scientific exchange for advancing science and technology on both sides of the Atlantic.

This award is open to U.S citizens who will be between the ages of 19 and 26 when the program begins. Candidates must be recent graduates (within the past year) or seniors at Stanford, and they must first be nominated by an authority at Stanford University.

This award has an on-campus process necessitating a nomination. Therefore, there are two deadlines that all applicants should be aware of – a universal deadline and a campus deadline. The university can nominate two candidates for the selection process. The campus deadline is in October while the universal deadline is in November. Applying is a lengthy ordeal and may require several months to prepare for. In order to be eligible, candidates must have already applied for admissions at a graduate program at University of Cambridge and Churchill College.

To apply, interested candidates should submit a University of Cambridge application form. This can be found on the Cambridge website. The online scholarship application must also be completed by October 15. This, too, is available online. Applicants must supply four recommendation letters and a cover form by October 15.

The rest of the required documents should be emailed directly to Diane Murk at dmurk@stanford.edu by October 15. Required documents include a Stanford Churchill Cover Sheet, a nomination form waiver, and a PDF copy of the application.

With the application, candidates should also submit a proposed program of study, detailed in a one-page essay. A two-page personal statement is also required, as is a record of correspondence with the Cambridge laboratory supervisor. This may be done via email but it should indicate a confirmation that the student will be accepted into the laboratory. All candidates must also supply official transcripts, both those from university study at Stanford as well as those from any summer program, study abroad programs, or previous institutions.

There will be fourteen awards granted, each ranging between $45,000 and $50,000. The scholarship covers all college and university fees and tuition. It also includes a generous stipend for a living allowance, research allowance, travel allowance, and any application fees for a U.K. visa.

To be eligible to apply, interested candidates must be full-time students currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program and an ongoing research study. Applicants from any accredited university in any country may apply.
To apply, candidates should submit a research summary of no more than 400 words. This should state the area of focus and indicate its importance to the field and Facebook during the anticipated research. Candidates should also submit a CV with relevant contact information and two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from an academic advisor.

To be eligible, applicants must be doctoral candidates who are conducting research within one of the Institute’s many research areas.

Applicants must be proficient in the English language, though their thesis papers may be written in languages other than English. Candidates should also be affiliated either with the Department of European and Comparative Procedural Law or the Department of International Law and Dispute Resolution.

To apply, interested candidates should submit a cover letter of one page stating their reasons for applying. They should indicate the relationship between the institute’s potential units of research and the topic of their own research. They should also provide a potential time frame for the scholarship stay in 2021.

Applicants must also submit a recent curriculum vitae that indicates the type of degree awarded. A brief summary of the PhD project, in no more than two pages, should include the desired subject and description of the research plan. Two letters of recommendation with appropriate contact details must also be supplied. One of these letters should be from the PhD supervisor.

Successful recipients will receive a scholarship in monthly installments of 1.500 €. Applicants will be granted workstations in the reading room, along with invitations to engage in regular scientific events. Recipients will also receive full access to the libraries of the Institute.

All materials must be submitted by May 31, 2020, with complete application information found on the university’s website. Questions can be directed to Viktoria Drum and Christiane Gobel at scholarship@mpi.lu.

In 1995, the governments of France and the Netherlands created the Descartes-Huygens award. This award was dedicated to attracting quality researchers (in addition to an interested public population) to improve relations in scholarship and science. Every year, two participants are awarded a substantial grant to study in this area.

The prize consists of a grant of 23,000 euros, and it is designed to cover at least some of the costs of a French researcher’s work and research residency in the Netherlands. This can also cover sequential working visits by a French researcher to the Netherlands (as well as the other way around). While research is the main focus of this award, other activities that enhance Franco-Dutch partnerships and cooperation can also be carried out.

The ideal candidate will be a researcher who is in the early to middle stages of his or her career. He or she should be currently employed somewhere in the country of France and have contributed to scientific and academic work. The selected candidate will stay for at least three months in the Netherlands. This three months can be broken out into numerous visits or carried out all at once. Additional activities may be developed while in residence as well.

The selected researcher should be prepared to dedicate the broad public as well as focused researchers on the research project that was carried out under the financial support of the prize. This may be done through media appearances or through targeted lectures.

Each researcher at Dutch universities and research institutes may nominate qualified French applicants. The Dutch nomination form must be used. The form, along with a completed curriculum vitae sent as attachments) should be sent to the Academy via email. All materials must be sent via the email address wetenschapsfondsen@knaw.nl no later than July 1, 2019.

Awards are going to be presented to the French and Dutch laureate in early 2020. This will be done in Paris. More information may be found by visiting the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation’s website, or by contacting the email address listed above.

The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award was designed for top-ranked junior researchers who are planning on working abroad. Financed in part by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, this award is granted to candidates who have completed their doctorates. The award is granted to those who have finished doctorate study within the past six years, and with distinction.

Candidates must have published their work in recognized international journals for publishing houses of prestige. The award allows recipients to spend a period of roughly five years contributing to a working group as they develop innovative, high-caliber research projects of their own design. These projects can be carried out at any research institution (of the applicant’s own choosing) in Germany.

Applicants from all disciplines may submit their materials no later than July 31, 2019. All application materials should be submitted to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, who will grant no more than six Sofja Kovalevskaja Awards per year. The total award is valued at €1.65 million.

To apply, candidate must have received a doctorate or equivalent academic program or certification with distinction no less than six years before the deadline for application submissions. This award allows recipients to pursue leadership positions for the first time in their careers in Germany. Therefore, applicants must not have already held or currently hold an offer of employment in Germany.

Candidates should also have academic achievements that are considered highly advanced for their field. These will be documented via a list of publications that were reviewed and published in academic journals or publishing houses. Applicants should have the support of a German host institution, as well as two expert reviews from academics that support the candidate’s work. Applicants should have good language proficiency in either German or English, and cannot have received a Sofja Kovalevskaja Award in the past.

Applicants should have lived outside the country of Germany for at least one year in the 18-month period that falls before the application submission deadline. Each candidate must find his or her own academic host, but there are several networks and search engines available on the Humboldt Foundation’s website to help candidates find these connections.

Sponsorships begin in Germany in the calendar year that the award is granted. The exact start date will be decided upon with the host institution, ideally prior to the submission of an application.
