Each year, Harvard University aims to attract and support rising young talent. Junior Scholars often find it difficult to gain access to prestigious universities, usually after they have just received their doctorates. They suffer from limited funding and issues related to curriculum development, which makes it tough to gain leverage in their academic careers.

As a result, the university offers an exceptional opportunity to provide funding to these individuals to carry out their research at Harvard University. The grants address scholars who have recently received their doctorate degrees, allowing them to strengthen their connections with others in the field and to promote the connection between their home universities and Harvard. These fellowships also allow these candidates to gain additional or new skills in their field.

The program is designed for candidates who have recently received their Ph.D. with honors, with most fields of study accepted for the program. Candidates who have backgrounds in sciences, law, humanities, public health, medicine, economy, political science, sociology, engineering, education, architecture, or any other field of study available at Harvard are eligible to apply.

To be eligible, individuals must have completed their Ph.D. at any of the RCC member universities between May 1, 2019, and April 30, 2020, and have graduated with the highest academic distinction. They should provide an admission letter from the Harvard University department, research center, or school stating that they are supporting the applicant’s research project and/or sponsoring their J-1 Visa. They should provide a valid TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 100 points.

To apply, candidates should visit the Harvard University website and fill out and submit the online application form. They will need to provide a certificate of having been granting a PhD, along with certificate of having enjoyed an Autonomous Community PhD program, FPU, FPI, or University PhD program scholarship. A detailed curriculum vitae and copy of an admission letter from the Harvard research center, school, or department supporting the research project should also be supplied.

Finally, a detailed research proposal for the project that will be carried out during the tenure at Harvard, in more than ten pages, must also be supplied. All materials are due no later than June 30, at 11:59 p.m.

Each year, the Soros Justice Fellowships are offered to exceptional individuals to allow them to partake in groundbreaking projects that will inspire debate, encourage reform, and serve as the catalyst for change on a variety of issues within the U.S. criminal justice system. These fellowships are designed to help mitigate the devastating effect of modern criminal justice policies on individuals within the United States. Most fellowships will support an effort to challenge the status quo of over-incarceration, extreme punishment, and a lack of fair justice.

Three different funding categories are available. The Advocacy Fellowships support lawyers, organizers, researchers, and advocates, as well as any other individuals with unique perspectives. Recipients are expected to engage in full-time criminal justice reform projects at any level, such as those relating to litigation, public education, or policy-driven research. These fellowships last for eighteen months and may commence anytime between July and November 2019. Each fellow receives an award of $87,000 or $120,000, depending on experience.

Media Fellowships are targeted toward writers, journalists, filmmakers, and artists. Supporting those with distinctive voices, these fellowships expect recipients to produce media projects that may be considered unpopular or controversial. These fellowships last for twelve months, with recipients receiving either $58,000 or $80,000, as well as project-related expenses.

Finally, Youth Activist Scholarships are designed for young adults aged 18 to 25 to support and develop projects of their own design. These projects should help to address some aspect of the American criminal justice system, such as public education, policy advocacy, social media campaigns, and more. Projects may be either full- or part-time and last for twelve or eighteen months. Fellows will receive $52,500 for full-time eighteen-month projects with a pro-ration for shorter or part-time projects.

All applicants must produce projects that relate to criminal justice reform goals. Individuals who have particularly been involved with some aspect of the criminal justice system are especially encouraged to apply. All application materials are due on October 22, 2018, with guidelines and more information found on the Open Society Foundations website. Application questions and questions on proposals may be directed to sorosjusticefellowships@opensocietyfoundations.org.

The Academy Scholars Program at the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies is designed for outstanding scholars in the beginning of their careers. The program allows scholars who are focused on the social sciences or law (particularly in the areas of language and history of cultures outside of the United States or Canada) to conduct research elucidating issues both past and present. These issues can be related to domestic, transnational, or comparative topics.

Candidates are chosen based on their resourcefulness and initiative, along with their overall originality. Individuals whose work in regions outside of the United States shows promise for exceptional careers in major institutions or universities will be given preference.

Selected candidates will be granted a two-year, in-residence, postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They will receive ample financial assistance, as well as research support, in order to engage in long-term research projects in their chosen disciplines. These scholars will receive mentors, known as the Senior Scholars, to guide them along in achieving their greatest academic potential.

Only candidates who have recently received PhDs or doctoral degrees in the social science s or law will be considered. Those who are still pursuing a PhD and have completed their training but are still in the thesis writing process may also apply. However, the PhD completion date in all circumstances must be within three years of the October 1 application deadline.

Four or five schools will be named to two-year appointments, with the scholars expected to live in the Cambridge area for their entire appointments. Scholars will receive $67,000 per year, with a deduction for candidates who have not yet earned their PhDs. This stipend will be accompanied by additional funding for conference and research travel, health insurance coverage, and research assistants. While candidates are encouraged to teach courses while engaging in their appointments, this is not required.

All application materials must be received no later than October 1. No late applications will be considered. Applications should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae or resume (including a list of publications), a research proposal, three letters of recommendation, and a copy of the candidate’s PhD program transcript. Questions can be directed to applicationinquiries@wcfia.harvard.edu.

The UEFA, or the Union of European Football Associates, contains fifty-five members associations seeking to develop their own research activities and projects in the analysis of European football. The organization’s research grant program was designed to support the work of qualified researchers who are either studying for or currently hold a PhD and are interested in analyzing European football.

Within the last few years, the UEFA has attempted to engage with the academic community by offering a series of initiatives to benefit both UEFA and European football. Their efforts comprise three pillars, including research, personal development, and change. The research pillar is designated to support projects directly addressing issues within European football. It is also designed to commission academic experts and centers to conduct specific, goal-oriented studies on behalf of UEFA.

To apply, all applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a representative of a UEFA member association that supports the research being proposed. This letter is designed to ensure that all projects are developed for and in conjunction with the national associations. Projects will also have the highest practical value possible.

In an effort to boost cooperation between member associations and European universities, the UEFA also allows three or fewer researchers to submit joint applications. These researchers should be based in the territories of three different national associations.

Each individual project is eligible for a grant of up to €15,000, and each joint project is eligible for up to €20,000. This funding lasts for up to nine months of research. Proposals may be submitted in Economics, History, Law, Management, Medical science, Political science, and Sociology.

Applications must be received by March 31, 2018. Questions about the program may be directed to universities@uefa.ch.
