The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is actively seeking potential leaders who are interested in developing their own project ideas and embarking on the experience of a lifetime. The German Chancellor Fellowship is open to students from India, Russia, China, and the United States, and allows scholars to work closely with hosts of their own choosing to build unique projects.

The fellowship features a monthly stipend ranging from 2,170 euros to 2,770 euros, depending on qualifications. It includes attentive individual mentoring during the fellow’s stay in Germany, as well as financial support for family members, travel expenses, and German language study. The fellowship also features cultural study tours of Germany as well as social networking events with representatives from German companies and institutions. Fellows are given the resources to make connections with alumni of the program as well, helping them to collaborate and gain professional experiences.

The fellowship exposes candidates to contemporary issues in their individual fields of study, allowing them to make long-term public impacts. Fellows are expected to expand their knowledge in their topic area while working in Germany, as well as to gain experiences in intercultural skills. Once the fellowship has ended, fellows will act as intermediaries between Germany and their host countries.

The program commences in August in Germany with a significant two-month German language course. Reductions or extensions of this course can be granted if necessary. In October, fellows then move on to a seminar in Bonn and then Berlin. These seminars provide fellows with the training and insights necessary in social, political, economic, and cultural life in Germany. After this period, fellows then work on their individual projects for eleven months.

Eligible candidates are those who completed a first degree less than twelve years ago and are interested in spending a year working on self-designed projects. Applicants should be able to demonstrate that their projects are of social significance. They should also indicate how the project has potential to make connections between Germany and the applicant’s host country. Applicants from the political, economic, media, administration, and cultural sectors are encouraged and invited to apply.

In addition to evidence of a degree completed no more than twelve years ago, fellows must also submit documentation evincing proven leadership experience, as well as a two-page letter of motivation and a three-page project plan. Two references and a host statement must also be supplied. All application materials must be received no later than October 15, 2022.

The UEFA, or the Union of European Football Associates, contains fifty-five members associations seeking to develop their own research activities and projects in the analysis of European football. The organization’s research grant program was designed to support the work of qualified researchers who are either studying for or currently hold a PhD and are interested in analyzing European football.

Within the last few years, the UEFA has attempted to engage with the academic community by offering a series of initiatives to benefit both UEFA and European football. Their efforts comprise three pillars, including research, personal development, and change. The research pillar is designated to support projects directly addressing issues within European football. It is also designed to commission academic experts and centers to conduct specific, goal-oriented studies on behalf of UEFA.

To apply, all applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a representative of a UEFA member association that supports the research being proposed. This letter is designed to ensure that all projects are developed for and in conjunction with the national associations. Projects will also have the highest practical value possible.

In an effort to boost cooperation between member associations and European universities, the UEFA also allows three or fewer researchers to submit joint applications. These researchers should be based in the territories of three different national associations.

Each individual project is eligible for a grant of up to €15,000, and each joint project is eligible for up to €20,000. This funding lasts for up to nine months of research. Proposals may be submitted in Economics, History, Law, Management, Medical science, Political science, and Sociology.

Applications must be received by March 31, 2018. Questions about the program may be directed to universities@uefa.ch.

The Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships at George Washington University invites incoming graduate students to apply for the Global Leaders Fellowship. The award will cover tuition for up to 18 credit hours a semester (separate from living expenses, books, and other fees). The fellowship is renewable each year for up to three years for Master’s students and five years for doctoral candidates. Summer session awards are also possible, subject to funding availability and at the personal petition by the candidate.

The mission of this award is to develop graduate students who will become leaders in their fields within their home country upon graduation. It is designed for students who have not previously studied or worked in the United States (or any other countries besides their home country). Ideally, this award will allow students to return to their native countries and be able to apply leadership skills obtained through their formal education at George Washington.

Only students holding or in the process of obtaining an F-1 visa are eligible to apply. Students must be from one of the following countries or regions: China, Cambodia, Eastern Europe, Laos, Latin America, the Caribbean, Mongolia, Sub-Saharan Africa, U.S.S.R. successor states, or Vietnam. Additionally, graduate students from Foggy Bottom on-campus programs are eligible within the following schools: College of Professional Studies, Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, Elliot School of International Affairs, Graduate School of Education and Human Development, School of Business, and School of Engineering and Applied Science. Students within the Executive Education program are not eligible to apply.

Students must have already applied for Fall 2018 admission to a master’s or doctoral program at George Washington University. Students who have not yet applied and been accepted will not be considered. Current graduate students at the university may not apply. The deadline to apply for the award is February 5, 2018. Students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or better while obtaining one degree only. Interested students may apply through George Washington’s online submissions portal. Awards will be announced in April 2018.

If you hail from Brazil, China, India, Russia, or the United States and want to be a leader of tomorrow, then the Humboldt Foundation’s German Chancellor Fellowship may be for you. The fellowship is open to all fields and is designed to help you take the next step in your career in Germany. To apply, you must develop your own project idea and find a host/mentor in Germany who will agree to work with you. Once the host/mentor has agreed, you can then apply for the fellowship.

To be considered for the fellowship, you must be a university graduate with international leadership experience from Brazil, China, India, Russia, or the United States. You can also be a somewhat recent graduate, having completed your first degree less than 12 years ago. The fellowship provides funding for a year, so you must have a project prepared that you are willing and able to work on for 12 months. Strong applicants will also be able to demonstrate that their project can build future bridges between Germany and their own country with a project that possesses social significance. Although applications are welcome from all fields, the foundation strongly encourages projects in the sectors of politics, economics, the media, administration, and culture.

The foundation awards up to 50 fellowships each year (up to ten for each country), and if you are chosen, you will receive between €2,150 and €2,750 each month (depending on your qualifications) for a year. In addition to the monthly stipend, the foundation may provide support for expenses such as family members accompanying you, travel costs, or a German language course. As a fellow, you will be provided individual mentoring for your project and professional development throughout the duration of your stay in Germany. You will also get to embark on a study tour of Germany and be able to attend various networking events where you can meet other fellows and representatives from German companies and institutions. Finally, the fellowship offers an extensive alumni sponsorship which is meant to help you maintain contact with German collaborators throughout your professional career (even after the fellowship term expires).

You can apply for the fellowship online, and applications are due September 15, 2017.
