The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is actively seeking potential leaders who are interested in developing their own project ideas and embarking on the experience of a lifetime. The German Chancellor Fellowship is open to students from India, Russia, China, and the United States, and allows scholars to work closely with hosts of their own choosing to build unique projects.

The fellowship features a monthly stipend ranging from 2,170 euros to 2,770 euros, depending on qualifications. It includes attentive individual mentoring during the fellow’s stay in Germany, as well as financial support for family members, travel expenses, and German language study. The fellowship also features cultural study tours of Germany as well as social networking events with representatives from German companies and institutions. Fellows are given the resources to make connections with alumni of the program as well, helping them to collaborate and gain professional experiences.

The fellowship exposes candidates to contemporary issues in their individual fields of study, allowing them to make long-term public impacts. Fellows are expected to expand their knowledge in their topic area while working in Germany, as well as to gain experiences in intercultural skills. Once the fellowship has ended, fellows will act as intermediaries between Germany and their host countries.

The program commences in August in Germany with a significant two-month German language course. Reductions or extensions of this course can be granted if necessary. In October, fellows then move on to a seminar in Bonn and then Berlin. These seminars provide fellows with the training and insights necessary in social, political, economic, and cultural life in Germany. After this period, fellows then work on their individual projects for eleven months.

Eligible candidates are those who completed a first degree less than twelve years ago and are interested in spending a year working on self-designed projects. Applicants should be able to demonstrate that their projects are of social significance. They should also indicate how the project has potential to make connections between Germany and the applicant’s host country. Applicants from the political, economic, media, administration, and cultural sectors are encouraged and invited to apply.

In addition to evidence of a degree completed no more than twelve years ago, fellows must also submit documentation evincing proven leadership experience, as well as a two-page letter of motivation and a three-page project plan. Two references and a host statement must also be supplied. All application materials must be received no later than October 15, 2022.

In 1995, the governments of France and the Netherlands created the Descartes-Huygens award. This award was dedicated to attracting quality researchers (in addition to an interested public population) to improve relations in scholarship and science. Every year, two participants are awarded a substantial grant to study in this area.

The prize consists of a grant of 23,000 euros, and it is designed to cover at least some of the costs of a French researcher’s work and research residency in the Netherlands. This can also cover sequential working visits by a French researcher to the Netherlands (as well as the other way around). While research is the main focus of this award, other activities that enhance Franco-Dutch partnerships and cooperation can also be carried out.

The ideal candidate will be a researcher who is in the early to middle stages of his or her career. He or she should be currently employed somewhere in the country of France and have contributed to scientific and academic work. The selected candidate will stay for at least three months in the Netherlands. This three months can be broken out into numerous visits or carried out all at once. Additional activities may be developed while in residence as well.

The selected researcher should be prepared to dedicate the broad public as well as focused researchers on the research project that was carried out under the financial support of the prize. This may be done through media appearances or through targeted lectures.

Each researcher at Dutch universities and research institutes may nominate qualified French applicants. The Dutch nomination form must be used. The form, along with a completed curriculum vitae sent as attachments) should be sent to the Academy via email. All materials must be sent via the email address wetenschapsfondsen@knaw.nl no later than July 1, 2019.

Awards are going to be presented to the French and Dutch laureate in early 2020. This will be done in Paris. More information may be found by visiting the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation’s website, or by contacting the email address listed above.

This year, as a component of the European Cultural Heritage Year 2018, the German cities of Osnabruck and Munster, Germany invites participants to join in a collaborative participation project, Lab Europe. This program takes place within the laboratories of the visual arts, music, media, history, and performance. These laboratories are designed to provide the opportunity for cultures to grow.

For example, the Art Lab will consider what young Europeans think about security, as well as how to address topics such as terrorism, flight, or climate change. Artists will be invited to devise an artistic position on the subject of security. The “Listeners” Lab will invite performers to overcome prejudices and design a program based on listening and communication regarding the future of Europe.

Each laboratory will have between eight and fifteen participants, each accompanied by professional partners like the Theater Osnabruck, the Society for Contemporary Arts Osnabruck, or the Museum of Cultural History. Results of laboratory work will be presented to the public on August 24th and 25th, 2018. Participants will be granted accommodations in a hotel near the city center of Osnabruck. In addition, all meals will be catered at a “lab center” for participants’ entire stays in the city.

This year, participants will participate in a ten-day exchange with other young Europeans, engaging in collaborative work as well as a cultural and leisure program. All costs related to travel, accommodation, and meals will be covered by the organization, but each accepted participant must pay a participation fee of 100 Euro in advance of the workshop.

All applications for Lab Europe must be received no later than May 15, 2018. Interested candidates should submit CVs, project outlines with proposed material and technical requirements, and specifications. Questions about individual lab requirements may be submitted to the individual lab sponsors. Materials may also be directed to lab.europe@osnabrueck.de. Notifications of application success will be sent by the end of May 2018.

Students will be given access to new tools, applied learning modules, and materials for practice-based learning.

This five-day training program consists of reflections, exchanges, and hands-on workshops, as well as lectures from experts and peers. In particular, cultural managers who are residents of Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, India, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, the United States, or one of the twenty-eight European Union member states will be given preference. Ten European Union participants in total will be selected, with three participants from each of the aforementioned countries also selected.

They should be employed in a field that allows them to act as receptors and distributors of new leadership knowledge and hold a leading management position in their organization. All accepted candidates will also work for a cultural civil society organization, institution, enterprise, or other similar cultural organization.

Applicants should be between twenty-five and thirty-nine years of age and have a good working knowledge of the English language. All travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the program.
The Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation of the German Marshall Fund invite applicants to submit materials for confidence-building activities of non-state actors in the Ukraine, Moldova, South Caucasus, and neighboring countries. This program supports project development intended to boost confidence and mutual understanding, as well as partnerships, in populations that were previously involved in mutually armed conflicts.

These projects were created to support new methods and approaches to build mutual understanding and cooperation. They support civil society organizations that have the ability to involve targeted audiences within these regions. Organizations residing with Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Armenia, and Azerbaijan are eligible to apply. Projects in the areas of cross-border initiatives for youth, coexistence, reintegration, stereotype prevention, media integration, and arts and culture are particularly encouraged.

Projects should be unique and make use of new techniques to build trust and understanding. They should be fiscally practical as well as highly creative. They may be undertaken through any platform, regardless of whether that platform is related to music, the environment, or even sports. They should bring together people within conflicted countries and foster a sense of mutual cooperation. Project plans should last no longer than six months.

All application materials and questions should be directed to confidencebuilding@gmfus.org. Applications must be in English, and include completed application, budget, narrative report, and financial report forms. These forms should include detailed information about the scope, intent, duration, and operating details of the project.

Most grants will be delivered in the amount of 23,000 US dollars, although some projects may surpass that amount. Interested candidates should submit all materials by May 21, 2018. Selected project funding recipients will be notified by July 2018. An additional, later deadline is available with an October 19 submission date and a December 2018 notification.
