The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award was designed for top-ranked junior researchers who are planning on working abroad. Financed in part by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, this award is granted to candidates who have completed their doctorates. The award is granted to those who have finished doctorate study within the past six years, and with distinction.

Candidates must have published their work in recognized international journals for publishing houses of prestige. The award allows recipients to spend a period of roughly five years contributing to a working group as they develop innovative, high-caliber research projects of their own design. These projects can be carried out at any research institution (of the applicant’s own choosing) in Germany.

Applicants from all disciplines may submit their materials no later than July 31, 2019. All application materials should be submitted to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, who will grant no more than six Sofja Kovalevskaja Awards per year. The total award is valued at €1.65 million.

To apply, candidate must have received a doctorate or equivalent academic program or certification with distinction no less than six years before the deadline for application submissions. This award allows recipients to pursue leadership positions for the first time in their careers in Germany. Therefore, applicants must not have already held or currently hold an offer of employment in Germany.

Candidates should also have academic achievements that are considered highly advanced for their field. These will be documented via a list of publications that were reviewed and published in academic journals or publishing houses. Applicants should have the support of a German host institution, as well as two expert reviews from academics that support the candidate’s work. Applicants should have good language proficiency in either German or English, and cannot have received a Sofja Kovalevskaja Award in the past.

Applicants should have lived outside the country of Germany for at least one year in the 18-month period that falls before the application submission deadline. Each candidate must find his or her own academic host, but there are several networks and search engines available on the Humboldt Foundation’s website to help candidates find these connections.

Sponsorships begin in Germany in the calendar year that the award is granted. The exact start date will be decided upon with the host institution, ideally prior to the submission of an application.

Each year, the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest offers multiple postdoctoral fellowships for young, early career researchers. These awards are granted for a period of three to twelve months, during which time fellows will be expecting to stay in Bucharest and will be considered full-time members of the academic community.

There is no deadline for these fellowships, which are intended for researchers with excellent track records. Applications can be submitted throughout the entire year, but applications submitted between January 1 and May 31 will be evaluated in the October/November panel. Those submitted between June 1 and December 31 will be evaluated in the April/May panel.

Individuals are eligible to apply if they are within five years from their PhD at the time of application. They should have already proved their ability to work successfully as independent researchers, with those who have two PhDs needing to have at least one relevant to the research field.

Fellowships are typically awarded to candidates who are not already in possession of a permanent position in research or higher education. Those who have work contracts with the University of Bucharest are not eligible, while those who have permanent positions in other institutions must provide a written agreement from the institution stating their endorsement of the candidate’s research activity as an ICUB fellow.

Scholars from all disciplines and nationalities may apply for this fellowship, which awards a stipend of 2500 lei per month. Awards may also include travel expenses and a living allowance. In return, fellows will be considered full members of the institute, and allowed to use the institute’s resources and infrastructure as such. Fellows will receive logistical support in applying for other grants and research programs, but will also be expected to organize scientific events.

Applications can be submitted at any time, with the peer-review evaluation taking about three months after submission. To apply, interested candidates should submit an application form, a CV and list of publications, a writing sample, a certification of the PhD defense, and information for references. Each applicant should supply the name, email address, and phone number of three separate professors who can attest to the referees work.

Candidates must also submit the research project in a maximum of five pages. Research projects involving any laboratory or experimental work should also include a preliminary agreement on behalf of the laboratory head. Each year, Harvard University aims to attract and support rising young talent. Junior Scholars often find it difficult to gain access to prestigious universities, usually after they have just received their doctorates. They suffer from limited funding and issues related to curriculum development, which makes it tough to gain leverage in their academic careers.

As a result, the university offers an exceptional opportunity to provide funding to these individuals to carry out their research at Harvard University. The grants address scholars who have recently received their doctorate degrees, allowing them to strengthen their connections with others in the field and to promote the connection between their home universities and Harvard. These fellowships also allow these candidates to gain additional or new skills in their field.

The program is designed for candidates who have recently received their Ph.D. with honors, with most fields of study accepted for the program. Candidates who have backgrounds in sciences, law, humanities, public health, medicine, economy, political science, sociology, engineering, education, architecture, or any other field of study available at Harvard are eligible to apply.

To be eligible, individuals must have completed their Ph.D. at any of the RCC member universities between May 1, 2019, and April 30, 2020, and have graduated with the highest academic distinction. They should provide an admission letter from the Harvard University department, research center, or school stating that they are supporting the applicant’s research project and/or sponsoring their J-1 Visa. They should provide a valid TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 100 points.

To apply, candidates should visit the Harvard University website and fill out and submit the online application form. They will need to provide a certificate of having been granting a PhD, along with certificate of having enjoyed an Autonomous Community PhD program, FPU, FPI, or University PhD program scholarship. The Centre of African Studies at the University of Cambridge announces the availability of two Visiting Research Fellowships for candidates of all disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. This award is designed to enable a fellow to focus on a period of research and writing in his or her field while working at Cambridge.

The selected fellows will come to the University to work on a project that builds on existing research. New research projects are allowed, so long as they can substantially advance by the end of the duration of the fellowship. Preference is given to early- and mid-career researchers who have an exceptional research portfolio. Residents must be permanent residents of African countries, with appointments lasting from October 1, 2019 until March 31, 2020.

Fellowships are non-renewable, with fellows being granted access to all holdings of Faculty and Departmental libraries. Fellows will also have access to the library of the Centre of African Studies and the University Library, which includes a broad collection of materials relating to Commonwealth History.

To apply, aspiring fellows must present a feasible and clear research plan, which should aim to produce one or more pieces of work for publication. All documents must be submitted in English, with materials sent via application to the Centre of African Studies at the University of Cambridge. Applications will include a copy of the applicant’s curriculum vitae (which should include details of publications), project details, a photocopy of a PhD certificate and passport, and two references sent directly by referees.

The Linda Hall Library encourages doctoral students and other exemplary scholars to apply for the 2019-2020 fellowships. Candidates should be conducting research in the history of science and related areas. This includes topics such as science and technology studies. This fellowship provides researchers with a unique, immersive setting that inspires rich intellectual discussion and research. Fellows may also take advantage of the library’s close proximity to other research libraries and institutions.

The Linda Hall Library was founded in 1946 and is one of the leading independent science and technology libraries in the country. Its holdings document the science, technology, and engineering disciplines spanning from the 15th century to the present. Over half a million monograph volumes and over 48,000 journal titles are available in topics such as natural history, Cold Ware science, aeronautics, and more.

Each fellowship is designed to last anywhere from one week to four months. Several distinct awards are available, including Residential Fellowships and Travel Fellowships. The residential fellowships may last from one to four months and are designed for doctoral students whose work would potentially benefit from research conducted within the Library’s collections. Funding is awarded for up to $3,000 per month for doctoral students and up to $4,200 per month for postdoctoral students.

Individuals who reside within the Kansas City area may not apply for residential research fellowships. Recipients are expected to work full time on their research projects at the library, and housing is not provided. All fellows must offer a lecture or seminar to the general public while in residence, if so requested, and engage in seminars and other in-house events with other fellows.

Travel fellowships are geared toward researchers who wish to make a short, exploratory visit lasting anywhere from one to three weeks. Funding is available in the amount of $750 per week to help offset the cost of travel and living expenses in Kansas City.

The Weiser Center for Emerging Democracies, housed within the University of Michigan, announces the availability of two fellowships for qualified scholars. This program is designed for candidates who have received their Ph.D. after 2017 and provides support for multidisciplinary research.

Research may fall into a number of categories, including topics that are historical, political, societal, and economic in nature. Regardless of the area of interest, all projects must consider how democracy and autocracy emerge, endure, or fail under trying conditions.

Each of the two selected fellows is expected to in turn focus on detailed research and to participate in occasional workshops and events. One public lecture must also be presented during the course of the two-year fellowship. Full-time residence at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor is also required, with a teaching opportunity possible during the second year of the fellowship, if so desired.

Applicants from any discipline may apply, although candidates from disciplines such as political science, history, and sociology will be given preference. Fellows must have defended and filed their dissertations.

Each fellowship is offered with an annual salary of $50,000, along with up to $7,000 in additional research funding. Recipients will also be eligible for health, dental, and life insurance options, as well as full access to university library resources.

To apply, interested candidates should submit a detailed two-page research plan. This should outline the intended research project as well as a plan for the how the fellow will spend his or her time during the fellowship. An updated Curriculum Vitae, along with a scholarly writing sample and two letters of recommendation must also be supplied.

The University of Konstanz invites prominent postdoctoral researchers to apply for its dynamic five-year research fellowships. These fellowships are designed for early career researchers in mind, particularly those who are seeking future careers in academia. The fellowships allow candidates to build their academic identities by leading their own independent research groups at the university.

The Zukunftskolleg, in which these programs are housed, provides researchers with the setting necessary to conduct unique research. Each selected fellow will receive a research allowance to help fund research assistants and purchase equipment, along with monies to help support travel costs, offset academic expenses, and pay for other consumables.
Each fellow will be considered a member of the department as well as the Zukunftskolleg. Mentoring committees support each fellow in his career development. This career mentoring group will consist of an experienced researcher from the university department as well as an advanced Research Fellow of the Zukunftskolleg.

Fellows are expected to take a place of residence in Konstanz and to participate in regular meetings as they are considered regular members of the staff. In return, fellows will be granted an annual research allowance and given the ability to apply for co-funding. Research Visits abroad, funding for cooperative initiatives, and other non-monetary support are also available.

To apply, fellows must have no more than five years of postdoctoral research experience. They cannot hold permanent academic positions, professorships, or have habilitations. They should be prepared to propose research projects that tie in with disciplines already represented at the university. Each fellow is also expected to secure his own research grant of at least 50,000 Euros or equivalent. Applicants who have pending applications may be considered, but third-party funding is necessary for an offer to be extended.

This program is funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research and is housed in New Delhi, India. The fellowship program is intended for senior and postdoctoral scholars who are focusing their research on themes such as History as a Political Category, Labor as a Political Category, Critiques and Renewals of Democracy, Normative Conflicts and Transformations, The Challenge of Gender, and Political Economy of Growth and Distribution.

Senior fellowships are designed to last for six months, with a stipend or reimbursement paid to the home institution of the candidates. TORCH, the Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities, invites applicants for the 2019-2020 Society for the Humanities Fellowship. This program, offered through the Society for the Humanities at Cornell University, is designed to provide exemplary scholars with the opportunity to pursue unique research projects in past, present, and future energy resources.

Scholars may be from any background, as this fellowship is designed to be interdisciplinary. Energy encompasses everything on the macro to microcosm scale, and incorporates politics, art, history, and science. Fellows may be from any discipline, as long as they are interested in engaging in significant dialogue about energy from any perspective.

Each fellow should be currently engaged in a topic related to the “Energy” theme. Applicants must have received their Ph.D. degrees prior to January 1, 2018. Those who received a Ph.D. later than that will not be considered. Each applicant must also have a year or more of teaching experience, including teaching as a graduate student if applicable. International candidates will be considered as well, provided that they are eligible to receive visas.

To apply, candidates should submit a curriculum vitae and a one-page abstract describing the intended research project in detail. This should be written in no more than three hundred words. A subsequent, more detailed summary of 1,000 to 2,000 words must also be supplied. A bibliography may also be included.

Each applicant should also submit a course proposal for a related seminar. Seminars are designed to meet two hours a week for a single semester, with enrollment of no more than fifteen undergraduates and graduate students. This proposal must include a course description, a proposal, and a list of essential texts. Candidates should also submit copies of scholarly papers of no more than thirty-five pages in length, as well as two letters of recommendation from senior colleagues. An online application should also be submitted.
