Each year, Harvard University aims to attract and support rising young talent. Junior Scholars often find it difficult to gain access to prestigious universities, usually after they have just received their doctorates. They suffer from limited funding and issues related to curriculum development, which makes it tough to gain leverage in their academic careers.

As a result, the university offers an exceptional opportunity to provide funding to these individuals to carry out their research at Harvard University. The grants address scholars who have recently received their doctorate degrees, allowing them to strengthen their connections with others in the field and to promote the connection between their home universities and Harvard. These fellowships also allow these candidates to gain additional or new skills in their field.

The program is designed for candidates who have recently received their Ph.D. with honors, with most fields of study accepted for the program. Candidates who have backgrounds in sciences, law, humanities, public health, medicine, economy, political science, sociology, engineering, education, architecture, or any other field of study available at Harvard are eligible to apply.

To be eligible, individuals must have completed their Ph.D. at any of the RCC member universities between May 1, 2019, and April 30, 2020, and have graduated with the highest academic distinction. They should provide an admission letter from the Harvard University department, research center, or school stating that they are supporting the applicant’s research project and/or sponsoring their J-1 Visa. They should provide a valid TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 100 points.

To apply, candidates should visit the Harvard University website and fill out and submit the online application form. They will need to provide a certificate of having been granting a PhD, along with certificate of having enjoyed an Autonomous Community PhD program, FPU, FPI, or University PhD program scholarship. A detailed curriculum vitae and copy of an admission letter from the Harvard research center, school, or department supporting the research project should also be supplied.

Finally, a detailed research proposal for the project that will be carried out during the tenure at Harvard, in more than ten pages, must also be supplied. All materials are due no later than June 30, at 11:59 p.m.

The UEFA, or the Union of European Football Associates, contains fifty-five members associations seeking to develop their own research activities and projects in the analysis of European football. The organization’s research grant program was designed to support the work of qualified researchers who are either studying for or currently hold a PhD and are interested in analyzing European football.

Within the last few years, the UEFA has attempted to engage with the academic community by offering a series of initiatives to benefit both UEFA and European football. Their efforts comprise three pillars, including research, personal development, and change. The research pillar is designated to support projects directly addressing issues within European football. It is also designed to commission academic experts and centers to conduct specific, goal-oriented studies on behalf of UEFA.

To apply, all applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a representative of a UEFA member association that supports the research being proposed. This letter is designed to ensure that all projects are developed for and in conjunction with the national associations. Projects will also have the highest practical value possible.

In an effort to boost cooperation between member associations and European universities, the UEFA also allows three or fewer researchers to submit joint applications. These researchers should be based in the territories of three different national associations.

Each individual project is eligible for a grant of up to €15,000, and each joint project is eligible for up to €20,000. This funding lasts for up to nine months of research. Proposals may be submitted in Economics, History, Law, Management, Medical science, Political science, and Sociology.

Applications must be received by March 31, 2018. Questions about the program may be directed to universities@uefa.ch.

California Institute of Technology (Caltech) invites qualified first-year applicants to its stellar undergraduate programs. The admissions team reads every application to get to know each student personally before making an admissions decision. Each student is more than a set of test scores and grades.

As a result, the Caltech team looks at academic ability by evaluating recommendations, grades, and test scores. Generally, most Caltech students are gifted in test-taking as a result of high mathematical and scientific abilities, but if this is not the case, the team will look more closely at applicant recommendations and other documents. Applications are not compared against each other, even if coming from the same high school. The admissions team will take into consideration the personal background of each applicant, as well as the secondary school profile.

It is recommended that students who have taken courses or completed research outside of school include those documents in the application. Students should indicate what, exactly, about math and science interests and excites them. The team also likes to read about how future students will impact the labs, classrooms, and community. The essay will ask students to explore and discuss an ethical dilemma that they have encountered.

To apply, students should submit the Common Application or the Coalition Application with specific Caltech questions. Students may also apply through the QuestBridge National College Match. Students should also submit a $75 application fee or fee waiver, standardized tests, teacher evaluations, a secondary school report, and academic transcripts. International students should also submit TOEFL scores and an International Financial Aid Statement of Intent.

International students are those who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Financial aid is limited for international students, so it is important that all students who intend to apply for aid indicate likewise on their applications. International students must also have completed an approved curriculum required by Caltech, including, but not limited to, the IGCSE, O, AS, and A Level curriculums. IB, AP, and other options may also satisfy high school course requirements.

Students may apply as either Early Action or Regular Decision to Caltech. Early Action is non-binding and non-restrictive. However, international students may not receive financial aid if they apply early action. The deadline is November 1, with notifications sent in mid-December.
The Institute for Comparative Federalism of Eurac Research, the Faculty of Law and the School of Political Science and Sociology of the University of Innsbruck announces a new common cross-border project. This program, called The Winter School on Federalism and Governance, was initially created in 2010, but has undergone multiple revisions. It takes place under the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

This school analyzes the interaction of federalism, regionalism, and multilevel governance from both political and legal perspectives. Each edition of the program allows students to focus on specific topics from the detailed approach of scholars, practitioners, and political scientists.

Students will examine the success and risk factors of multilevel governance systems through a wide range of case studies regarding the European Union, multinational states, and Eastern Europe. Students will study different policy fields such as financial relations and environmental policies.

The Institute for Comparative Federalism conducts comparative legal studies and applied research on governance in Europe and throughout the rest of the world. It is a component of Eurac Research, which conducts innovative research and training in Italy.

The next edition of the Winter School will be held from February 5th to 16th, 2018, and focuses on federalism in the making. It will be held in Innsbruck Austria, and Bolzano, Italy. Innsbruck is well known for Alpine scenery and architectural heritage. Students will enjoy a bustling university town and many winter sports. Bolzano is rich in culture and heritage, as well as architecture. Students will spend the two weeks of the winter school in lectures and discussion sessions, workshops, and study visits. They will be given multiple opportunities for discussion with leading experts on multilevel governance.

All international students, whether young researchers, academics, post-doctoral and post-graduate students, or civil servants, are invited to apply. Applicants are accepted from August until October 26, 2017. Scholarships are available for qualified students. Students must attend both weeks of the program. Students can obtain more information by contacting the Winter School organizers at +39 0471 055 239 or winterschool@eurac.edu.

The European University Institute (EUI) shares an established global program fellowship opportunity for qualified applicants. The Max Weber Programme (MWP) is the largest and most innovative postdoctoral experience in historical and social sciences. Applicants frequently cite political and social sciences economics, law, and history as their areas of interest. Although the program is housed at the European University Institute, it is not exclusive to European Union citizens.

Applicants must be within five years of completing their PhD and can reside anywhere in the world. The program will be held at a global institution in Italy. Faculty and researchers within the program hail from a wide range of European countries, from Portugal to Russia, as well as beyond. The program attracts candidates from as far as North and Latin America, Asia, and the Antipodes. Despite this highly beneficial and diverse mix, however, it is important to note that the native language of the program is English.

The program is highly selective and attracts over 1200 applicants each year for approximately sixty fellowships. The Max Weber Programme awards fellowships ranging from one to three years depending on the department. Successful recipients are awarded a grant of 2000 euros per month plus a family allowance if appropriate. Fellows also enjoy exclusive access to the research facilities of the European University Institute. These include an exceptional library, shared workspaces, and a personal fund of 1000 euros for independent research.

The program helps postdoctoral students become fully integrated members of an outstanding global academic community. Fellows are provided training in publishing, teaching, presenting, and grant applications. As a result, most Max Weber Fellows immediately secure an academic position in top-ranked institutions upon completing the program.

To apply for the 2018-2019 academic year, students should submit applications and required materials by October 25, 2017. They should submit an application form, CV with a list of publications, academic career statement, research proposal, and letters of reference. Questions about the application process or program may be directed to the Academic Service office at the European University Institute at applyfellow@eui.eu or +39 055 4685 377.

Carleton University’s Institute of European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (EURUS) is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship, to begin October 2017. The fellowship allows you to spend one to two years in residence at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. As a postdoctoral fellow, you will get to work with a faculty mentor at EURUS.

EURUS is an interdisciplinary institute and therefore welcomes applications from candidates from various backgrounds, including history, political science, anthropology, sociology, economics, law, and other fields in the humanities and social sciences. However, preference will be given to candidates who possess a regional specialization in the Russian Federation, South-Eastern Europe, or other post-Soviet states.

As a postdoctoral fellow at EURUS, you will be expected to fulfill several responsibilities. Your main duty is to focus on your research and writing. The institute expects that such work will include working with colleagues at EURUS and designing research grant applications. You will also be expected to consult with graduate students working on related research topics and participate in the scholarly life of the institute. Finally, you may be provided an opportunity to teach in an academic program run by the institute, but this will depend on curricular needs.

To be eligible for this fellowship, you must have successfully defended and deposited your dissertation before the position begins in October 2017. Your dissertation should relate to one of the thematic areas previously discussed, and you must have earned your PhD no earlier than September 2014.

The fellowship will initially last a year from October 2017 to September 2018, and you will be provided an annual stipend of $40,500 that includes mandatory benefits. The fellowship may be renewed for a second year, following a review of your work and depending on the availability of funds. As a fellow, you will be promised office space (although it may be a shared space), library access, internet access, and computer facilities access.

To apply for the position, you must email your application packet to eurus.postdoc@carleton.ca. Your packet should include your curriculum vitae, a research plan for the duration of the fellowship (750-1,000 words), and a scholarly writing sample on a relevant topic. Lastly, you will have to provide two recommendation letters. The application materials are due August 15, 2017. For more information about the fellowship and how to apply, click here.
