The Paris Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), alongside the University of Paris-Saclay, has opened positions for two research chairs and is initiating a call for applications. These positions as Chair will run consecutively, with 6 months duration each, one in academic year 2018-2019, and the second in 2019-2020.

The Institute calls for applicants who are either: senior university professors or researchers; or junior scholars. Senior professors must be currently employed by a university or research facility or must hold emeritus status. The University also stipulates that senior professors have had at least 10 years’ experience following their PhD. Junior scholars must hold postdoctoral researcher status or have a current position in a university or research organisation. For these applicants, it is a requirement that they have research experience of 2-9 years following the PhD.

Each Paris-Saclay Research Chair will have the chance to work closely with laboratories in Paris-Saclay and will have the advantage of a science-focused work environment in Paris IAS. The position of the Research Chair is intended to be inter-disciplinary across the humanities and social sciences. Applicants are expected to propose ground-breaking, risk-taking research. The University will consider candidates who plan to research and carry out project work on: ‘markets, business, work and innovation’, ‘heritage, culture and knowledge’, or ‘sciences and society’.

Applications can be found on the University’s website and should be submitted by August 31, 2018 at noon (GMT+2). Take note that applicants who have lived in France for 12 months in total, over the past three years, cannot be taken into consideration. Candidates should also be bilingual in English and French: both languages are required for scientific and social aspects of the Chair.

Established by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the goal of the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme is to enable higher education establishments in France to attract top foreign students. This scholarship program welcomes applicants who are pursuing master’s and PhD coursework. The goal of this program is to help shape the future foreign decision-makers, both in the private and public sectors.

There are two branches of this scholarship program. One is the master’s branch, which funds courses lasting between twelve and thirty-six months. The other is the PhD branch, which offers funding for ten months in France through joint supervision or dual enrollment. Ideally, recipients of this scholarship will be in the second year of their PhD programs.

Applicants from all nations are invited to apply, including those from emerging and industrialized countries. There is no limitation on nationality, however, French students may not apply. Applicants should be studying in priority areas. These areas include Economics and Management, Engineering Sciences (at the Master’s level), Broad Sciences (PhD level), Law, or Political Sciences. Applicants pursuing an Engineering degree may receive the scholarship for a maximum of thirty-six months.

The French higher education establishments will preselect candidates and allow them to proceed to the online application on the Campus France website. If you are interested in applying, contact the International Relation departments of the school through their website, bye mail, or phone. Each institution will have more information. You may also contact the French embassy of your country to inquire. If your school of choice decides to support your application, you will receive the application form to complete.

Scholarships are awarded contingent on the fulfilment of the academic requirements of each year of the course. The scholarship may cover an internship lasting no more than twenty-five percent of the total duration of the course, but it must be an integral portion of the program of study and be considered mandatory. The scholarship finances a monthly stipend of €1,400, in addition to international return trips, social security coverage, cultural activities, and, in some conditions, housing allowances.

Applications and related materials must be submitted no later than January 12, 2018. Results of the scholarship committee’s decision will be posted the week of March 26, 2018.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards several grants to United States students and young professionals to study and/or conduct academic research at universities within EU Member States. Topics of study must include EU policies, EU institutes and the American-European Union agenda. Grants are available for students with Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degrees.

Four total awards are available, for a grant period of six to nine months. The grant will last from September through June, with specific start dates negotiated directly with host institutions. Applicants may propose an area of research or study in one to three different countries. If a student is interested in studying in multiple countries, at least three months must be required in each European Union member state. The orientation date for the program will be supplied either by the Fulbright Commission or by the United States Embassy in the country of research.

To apply, students should submit a project proposal that focuses on the observation of comparative perspectives of issues of concern. These issues should be ones that involve both the United State and the European Union, such as:

internal and external security

peace-keeping

the EU and NATO

justice and home affairs

finance

trade

human rights

agricultural and environmental policies

energy

asylum

human trafficking

development

EU enlargement

Other topics may also be accepted. Proposals should relate to EU competencies and not simply Europe or countries within Europe. There should be a holistic value to the project. Successful applicants will exhibit personal, academic, and creative excellence, along with a strong research rationale and plan. They will be strong leaders and clearly indicate how their studies will benefit American-European Union relationships during and after their grant periods.

Applicants should be proficient in the language of their chosen country, though this is not a mandatory component of the application process. TO apply and for more information, students should visit http://www.fulbrightschuman.eu.
