Along with the Oxford NERC Doctoral Training Program in Environmental Research, the St Cross College are offering a scholarship for students beginning their DPhil DTP (Doctoral Training Program) at Oxford University in the academic year 2019 to 2020. Open to both home and EU DPhil students, the DTP seek to recruit from the following three subjects: The Physical Climate, Biodiversity, Ecology & Evolutionary Processes, and the Dynamic Earth – Surface Processes and Natural Hazards.

Available for students taking their DPhil at St Cross College, beginning Michaelmas 2019, the Graduate Scholarship funds tuition fees for home and EU applicants throughout the whole study, given that students effectively complete their Transfer of Status. Additionally, the college will provide an annual maintenance grant for home students, to the value of £14,999 per year, in line with the RCUK doctoral stipend. Moreover, successful scholars will receive priority for accommodation within the College for their first year; the accommodation will be charged at the standard rate.

Candidates who will enter the position of DPhil in 2019-2020 can apply for the Graduate Scholarship Doctoral Training Program in Environmental Research through the University of Oxford’s application form. For this particular program, applicants should list St Cross College as their top choice. Note that all applications should be completed and sent by January 18th, 2019.

Note that the College will automatically consider applicants who list St Cross College as their first choice, as well as those who apply ahead of the deadline. Successful applicants will be judged on their academic merit and the DTP will take place at St Cross; there will be no opportunity to change Colleges.

The World Bank invites qualified students to apply for the Winter Internship program. Applications are open until October 31, 2017. This internship allows motivated students the opportunity to improve their skills while working in a fast-paced, diverse setting.

Candidates must currently hold an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program. This may be as a Master’s degree or PhD with plans to return to school full-time. Typically, successful applicants are those who have completed their first year of graduate studies, or are already enrolled in a PhD program.

Fluency in English is required, as is relevant work experience. Preference is given to candidates with computing skills and knowledge of languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Chinese.

The internship is open to candidates studying within the fields of economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social science (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, private sector development, and several others. The internship provides an hourly salary, along with an applicable allowance towards travel expenses.

Interns must arrange and finance their own living arrangements in the city of the internship. Most positions will be held in Washington, D.C, though some are held in partnering locations. All are at least four weeks long. The internship is offered during the summer (June-September), as well as the winter (December-March). The latter period is now accepting applications.

All materials must be submitted online. In addition to an online application, students must submit a curriculum vitae (CV), statement of interest, and proof of enrollment in a graduate degree. The Global Studies program at The University of California Santa Barbara invites qualified graduate students to apply for its PhD in Global Studies. This program is the first within a Tier-1 Research University in the country. During the first year of this program, students will engage in graduate-level seminars in global studies, and progress in the second year to electives within the department or across campus.

The program takes under six years to complete and provides exceptionally engaged students with the opportunity to tackle complex global issues such as the global political economy, the environment, global culture, religion, and human rights, in an effort to find solutions for those issues. Students will select a primary and secondary specialization upon which to target their coursework. The program is widely interdisciplinary, allowing students to work closely with instructors from all around campus. A field studies component, second language acquisition, and the successful completion of a dissertation are also required components. This degree prepares qualified students for top-ranked careers in academics, research institutions, and within both the private and public sectors. All courses must be passed with a grade of B or better. Students who have completed prior coursework at a comparable Research I Institution may be awarded course credit.

Interested students should apply by December 15th for full consideration. Applicants may only be admitted during the fall semester.
