Each year, Harvard University aims to attract and support rising young talent. Junior Scholars often find it difficult to gain access to prestigious universities, usually after they have just received their doctorates. They suffer from limited funding and issues related to curriculum development, which makes it tough to gain leverage in their academic careers.

As a result, the university offers an exceptional opportunity to provide funding to these individuals to carry out their research at Harvard University. The grants address scholars who have recently received their doctorate degrees, allowing them to strengthen their connections with others in the field and to promote the connection between their home universities and Harvard. These fellowships also allow these candidates to gain additional or new skills in their field.

The program is designed for candidates who have recently received their Ph.D. with honors, with most fields of study accepted for the program. Candidates who have backgrounds in sciences, law, humanities, public health, medicine, economy, political science, sociology, engineering, education, architecture, or any other field of study available at Harvard are eligible to apply.

To be eligible, individuals must have completed their Ph.D. at any of the RCC member universities between May 1, 2019, and April 30, 2020, and have graduated with the highest academic distinction. They should provide an admission letter from the Harvard University department, research center, or school stating that they are supporting the applicant’s research project and/or sponsoring their J-1 Visa. They should provide a valid TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 100 points.

To apply, candidates should visit the Harvard University website and fill out and submit the online application form. They will need to provide a certificate of having been granting a PhD, along with certificate of having enjoyed an Autonomous Community PhD program, FPU, FPI, or University PhD program scholarship. A detailed curriculum vitae and copy of an admission letter from the Harvard research center, school, or department supporting the research project should also be supplied.

Finally, a detailed research proposal for the project that will be carried out during the tenure at Harvard, in more than ten pages, must also be supplied. All materials are due no later than June 30, at 11:59 p.m.

Jobs at Apple are rewarding and enriching, both personally and professionally. They are available in a wide range of fields, including in stores, corporate workings, and at home. Apple also offers several internship opportunities to qualified students.

On November 9, 2017, Apple announced the Data Science and Machine Learning Internship through Apple Maps. This job is located in Santa Clara Valley, California and requires a full forty hours of work a week.

The intern will join the Apple Maps Routing and Traffic team in 2018. This team works on some of the most challenging and significant big data issues in the modern computer engineering field. The group works to make sense of petabytes of data in order to deliver critical navigational functionality for the millions of users who depend on the success of Apple Maps.

This internship is a great opportunity for a motivated, talented student looking to apply his or her coding and machine learning skills to a large, significant application. The ideal intern will have experience in machine learning theory and practice, in particular neural networks and sequence-based models. He or she will also have used machine learning software such as Python Sci-Kit, TensorFlow, Weka, MATLAB, or R. The successful candidate will have in-depth experience in Java or Python, along with CS fundamentals and object-oriented programming. Experience with Hadoop or Spark is an additional bonus.

This internship will allow the candidate to practice skills necessary to develop novel solutions to improve the quality of traffic information, routes, navigation, and ETA using large-scale streaming data. Interns will work closely with experts in machine learning and traffic and solve interesting data-driven projects. Interns should be currently enrolled in Ph.D. studies in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Civil Engineering (Traffic with a data science focus), or a related field.

California Institute of Technology (Caltech) invites qualified first-year applicants to its stellar undergraduate programs. The admissions team reads every application to get to know each student personally before making an admissions decision. Each student is more than a set of test scores and grades.

As a result, the Caltech team looks at academic ability by evaluating recommendations, grades, and test scores. Generally, most Caltech students are gifted in test-taking as a result of high mathematical and scientific abilities, but if this is not the case, the team will look more closely at applicant recommendations and other documents. Applications are not compared against each other, even if coming from the same high school. The admissions team will take into consideration the personal background of each applicant, as well as the secondary school profile.

It is recommended that students who have taken courses or completed research outside of school include those documents in the application. Students should indicate what, exactly, about math and science interests and excites them. The team also likes to read about how future students will impact the labs, classrooms, and community. The essay will ask students to explore and discuss an ethical dilemma that they have encountered.

To apply, students should submit the Common Application or the Coalition Application with specific Caltech questions. Students may also apply through the QuestBridge National College Match. Students should also submit a $75 application fee or fee waiver, standardized tests, teacher evaluations, a secondary school report, and academic transcripts. International students should also submit TOEFL scores and an International Financial Aid Statement of Intent.

International students are those who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Financial aid is limited for international students, so it is important that all students who intend to apply for aid indicate likewise on their applications. International students must also have completed an approved curriculum required by Caltech, including, but not limited to, the IGCSE, O, AS, and A Level curriculums. IB, AP, and other options may also satisfy high school course requirements.

Students may apply as either Early Action or Regular Decision to Caltech. Early Action is non-binding and non-restrictive. However, international students may not receive financial aid if they apply early action. The deadline is November 1, with notifications sent in mid-December. Regular Decision applications must be received by January 3, with responses received in mid-March. For questions on admissions procedures, students should email admissions@caltech.edu.

Dartmouth College is accepting applications for its Junior Fellows program. Junior Fellowships are designed to support the academic careers of freshly-minted Ph.D. scholars. The fellowship allows them three years to pursue their research agenda while benefitting from mentors and gaining experience as teachers and department members. Applicants should be ready to start their next post-doctoral project, and they will be accepted from various fields, including humanities, social sciences, interdisciplinary programs, sciences, engineering, business, and medicine.

The responsibilities and benefits of Junior Fellows are quite extensive. Fellows will be expected to participate in the Junior Fellow Society, which includes presenting their research and scholarship. Fellows will also be appointed as non-tenure-track Lecturers in a department/program wherein they will teach two courses for the duration of the three-year fellowship, but they will not be asked to teach basic language courses. They will also receive teacher training through the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL). Fellows will be kept in residence for the fall, winter, and spring terms, but off-campus research leave is permitted in rare cases. Fellows will have access to college resources such as the school’s library and computing center, but they will not control dedicated laboratory or studio space.

The fellowship typically lasts 34 months, beginning September 1 and ending June 30 of the final year. The monthly stipend is $4,600 plus benefits along with $5,000 each year to support computing, travel, and research needs. The Society of Junior Fellows coordinates with departments to provide appropriate office space and other research needs, but such resources are ultimately at the discretion of each department.

To apply for the 2018-2021 class of Junior Fellows, you must have completed your Ph.D. no earlier than January 1, 2016 and have your degree in hand by June 30, 2018. Applications can be completed online, and they must be submitted by 18 September 2017. The applications should identify at least one Dartmouth faculty member whose research is relevant to your own, and the application pack must include: a cover sheet, a personal statement (1,500-word limit), a statement answering the question “After reviewing your opportunities at Dartmouth, what can Dartmouth do for you and what do you think will be the most productive aspect of your interactions with Dartmouth faculty and students?” (500-word limit), a statement outlining your scholarly agenda (500-word limit), a curriculum vitae, three recommendation letters, and academic transcripts.
