The University of Washington invites international applicants to its outstanding undergraduate programs.
International students must submit English proficiency exam scores. Competitive applicants will demonstrate a high level of English proficiency and have attained the recommended score to be exempt from the university’s Academic English Program. English proficiency is also considered as a component of the application review process. Students who were educated in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, or the United States are exempted from this proficiency requirement. However, those who were born in one of these countries but educated elsewhere must still meet the proficiency requirement.
SAT and ACT test scores are not required for international students, but highly recommended to demonstrate academic ability. These tests may also be used as a substitution for the English proficiency requirement. A minimum grade of B in all high school English writing or literature courses is required in addition to a minimum ACT English score of 22, or an SAT Critical Reading score of 550.
All admissions materials must be submitted by December 31,2017. In addition to proficiency and standardized test scores, applicants should submit academic transcripts for grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. Transcripts may be submitted electronically through Naviance or Parchment Exchange. Final exam certificates or diplomas should also be submitted (in the form of GCSE, O-level, SPM, etc). Transcripts may be sent in an unofficial format, but official documents will be required later on.
A student’s overall academic performance plays a major role in the admissions decision,. Applicants with lower than a C average will not be considered, and competitive students will have much higher than a C average. Students who completed advanced level exams such as A-levels, IB Diploma, etc may be given priority in admission.
