University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites unique students to apply for its outstanding undergraduate programs. The university takes pride in its inclusive, one-size-does-not-fit-all approach. Each year, the university’s admissions team builds a diverse class of students who inspire each other to work hard and accomplish great things. In fact, the university has produced more Rhodes Scholars than any other public research school in the country throughout the past twenty-five years.

The university seeks a variety of strengths and talents and does not look for a specific set of qualities or accomplishments. The selection process is not guided by formulas or thresholds, and each application is read individually and thoroughly. The team will look for students who are smart, motivated, service-oriented, curious, creative, and courageous.

In particular, the university seeks qualified international students. About five hundred of last year’s undergraduate students hailed from over one hundred different countries outside of the United States. International students are those who do not hold U.S. citizenship or Permanent Resident status. They apply using the same process as domestic applications, which is the Common Application. There is no separate application requirement for international students, but they must also submit copies of English language proficiency exams (such as the IELTS or TOEFL).

Applicants should submit the online application and application fee. In addition, transcripts, test scores, and supporting materials from teachers and counselors must be received no later than three weeks after the admissions deadline. However, the sooner applications are complete, the sooner a decision can be rendered.

All students, regardless of country of origin, should apply by October 15 to receive a decision by the end of January. Those who wish to receive a decision by the end of March should apply by January 15. CSS and FAFSA information should be submitted by March 15 for financial aid eligibility. Questions and links to application materials may be received by emailing the admissions team at unchelp@admissions.unc.edu.
