OFID Scholarships

The OPEC Fund for International Development annually sponsors several exceptional young scholars from developing countries. These students are funded for graduate studies in disciplines related to development. For the 2018-2019 academic year, applications are open until May 4, 2018.

These awards are designed for master’s degree studies. Applicants must be from developing countries (exempting OFID Member Countries) and must have already obtained admission to a graduate program before receiving this award. The program may be in any relevant filed of development, and at any accredited university in the world.

This scholarship recognizes that the overall expenses of graduate studies is one of the biggest deterrents to motivated individuals obtaining life-changing careers. These awards, therefore, fund the entire cost of tuition fees, as well as any supplementary fees. The award also covers a round-trip flight between the home country and the university, as well as health insurance and a relocation grant to cover additional costs of moving. The award even includes a monthly allowance for up to one year.

Eligible students will be between the ages of twenty-three and thirty-two at the time of application. He or she must have completed, or be ready to complete, an undergraduate degree with an accredited university. While enrolled in this scholarship program, students should expect to study an area such as economics of development or another science or technology field within a full-time course schedule.

To apply, interested students should register with the OFID Scholarship Portal with a valid email address. From there, students can upload an application and all other necessary documents, such as a curriculum vitae, two recommendation letters, transcripts from any institutions attended, and an acceptance letter to a qualified postgraduate program. Candidates should also submit a copy of a passport and a personal essay. The personal essay should outline the candidate’s educational goals and how the scholarship will align with his or her career and personal goals. Successful recipients will be notified in June 2018.
