New Europe College

New Europe College announces the availability of fellowships for the academic year of 2018-2019. The Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest, Romania targets young Romanian and international researchers or academics working in the fields of humanities, social studies, law, and economics.

To be eligible, applicants must hold a Ph.D. title. They should be under the age of forty and have not yet benefited from a NEC fellowship. Although the native language of the applicant may be English, French, or German, a good command of the English language is desired for the program.

Romanian fellows will work for a full academic year of ten months (October through July). Non-Romanian fellows will work for the October through July period, or for a one-term fellowship (October through February, or March through July). All fellows will work at New Europe College’s Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest.

The fellowship will consist of a monthly salary stipend of 750 Euro. This will be paid after taxes. They will also receive accommodations, international transportation to and from the home country, and also during holidays. Fellows who work throughout the entire academic year will also be offered a one-month research trip abroad to an institution of their choice. They will be awarded 1,500 Euro for transportation, accommodation, and per diem. Alternatively, fellows can conduct field research, either in Romania or outside of it.

The Fellowship consists of: a monthly stipend of 750 Euro (tax free), accommodation, international transportation to and from the home country of the Fellows at the beginning and the end of the Fellowship, as well as for season holidays. The Fellows who stay for the whole academic year are offered a one-month research trip abroad to an institution of their choice (1,500 Euro for transportation, accommodation, and per diem). As an alternative, they can opt for field research, in Romania or outside it.

Fellows will conduct original research and engage in scientific events, which will be organized by the New Europe College. Each fellow will submit a reflective research paper at the end of the fellowship.

Applicants should be submitted electronically to applications@nec.ro. In the subject line of the email, applicants should indicate “NEC Fellowships.” All applications must be received by December 7, 2017. Applicants will be notified of pre-selection by March 2018, with interviewees announced by April 20, 2018. Application forms can be requested at the above email.
