NATO OTAN

The NATO Defense College (NDC) have opened a call for eight Fellowships in the field of defence and security policy research appertaining to the NATO network and its partners. A central element of these Fellowships is to encourage and foster the analysis of policy and areas of research that are of interest to both NATO States and partnership countries participating with NATO protocol.

NDC Eisenhower Defence Fellowship Programme

Named after the founder, the NDC offers the Eisenhower Defence Fellowship Programme. This research programme is open to citizens of NATO States and offers three positions:

  • One Senior Eisenhower Defence Fellow (four-month programme)
  • Two Eisenhower Defence Fellows (three-month programme per Fellow)

Successful candidates can expect funds to cover both travel and living costs throughout the research period at the NDC.

Students wishing to apply should submit proposals that are in line with the main concerns addressed in the 2010 Strategic Concept and 2016 Warsaw Summit Declaration. Applications should be sent to the NDC Research Division.
In particular, the College seeks applicants who plan to focus primarily on the topic of Russia, security and defence challenges on the Eastern and Southern flanks of the Alliance, and/or relations with strategic Partners.

Fellowships for NATO Partners Countries:

Each year, the NDC offers research fellowships to students from countries outside of the Alliance. All students will receive payment for travel costs and day-to-day costs of living in Rome, where the NDC research takes place:

  • Partnership for Peace Fellowships (PfP): two four-month fellowships for students from PfP countries. Applicants should focus on NATO and Euro-Atlantic Security in their research proposals.
  • Mediterranean Dialogue (MD) Fellowships: there are two four-month fellowships available for students from MD countries. Candidates should create proposals focusing on NATO and Mediterranean Security.
  • Other Military Cooperation (OMC) / Partners Across the Globe (PAG): there is one four-month research fellowship for applicants from OMC / PAG countries. These candidates should concentrate on NATO and Global Security in their application.

All terms and conditions, and application forms can be found on the NATO Defense College website. Note that the form itself is in Adobe format, meaning that you will need access to this programme for formatting purposes. All applications should be sent to Mr Eugenio Mengarini at: e.mengarini@ndc.nato.int . Only successful applicants will be notified.
