The Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology – Hans Knöll Institute (HKI) is looking to recruit three PhD students for a 36-month programme starting on or soon after November 1, 2018. The Institute is working with several other countries and institutions in a network which researches and develops cutting-edge, all-natural antibiotics by studying human-pathogenic fungi. In turn, the network identifies objectives to progress and improve natural-based antibiotics thus pushing towards a new future in both pathobiology and medicine.

This network, known as the Marie Sklodowska Curie Innovative Training Network BestTreat, are currently looking for three Early Stage Researchers for their innovative programme which sees young scientists work towards collective analysis of data in the field of natural product research. Thus, applicants can come from a wide range of scientific disciplines, such as biochemistry, bioengineering, or any other denomination wherein researching the effects of natural products on infections will pertain to a future career path.

Applicants should be highly-driven, well-qualified researchers whose interest in this particular subject is of value. Candidates should equally be at ease with working across various fields of research to maintain the collaborative nature of the research. An MSc degree in a connected field is paramount. The Institute are also looking for applicants who have experience in biological analysis at high volume, knowledge of statistical methods for biology, and programming experience for systems such as Python and Perl. They will additionally seek those who have cultivated the skills of collaborative work.

Candidates interested in this pioneering work should follow the Institute’s guidance in their application system by including:

  • Resume
  • Certificates and transcripts from all previous university studies;
  • A concise account of experience in research and interest in further research
  • A short outline of Master’s thesis
  • Two academic referees

The online system will prompt you to submit each document. The application deadline is September 1st, 2018. Successful applicants can expect a welcoming environment at HKI from a small team of around 15 members across various ranks and positions.
