In 2014, BIMoS was founded to support research in data science and integrated mathematical modeling, simulation, and optimization. This institute focuses on applications ranging from life sciences, information technology, and even engineering. This combination provides a recognized, internationally renowned research environment. Students are provided with interdisciplinary teamwork and a rich lecture program.

Each year, BIMoS offers six PhD fellowships for students who excel in their field of study and already hold a master’s degree. Ideally, the recipient of the award will have experience in the general research area of BIMOs and will enjoy working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

Each fellow will receive a stipend of 1,468 euros per month. Fellowships begin October 1, 2018, and fellows may continue to receive support for a period of three years. All applications must be received by December 31, 2017.

To apply, applicants must submit, as one single PDF document, a CV (including publications), personal statement, expose of proposed PhD project, letter of support of proposed supervisor, university transcripts, and proof of proficiency in English. These materials should be sent to office@bimos.tu-berlin.de. Letters of recommendation must also be sent by two scientists who know the applicant’s work as well. These should be sent to the same aforementioned email address by January 7th, 2018.

Applications will only be considered complete if they are in one document, and submitted by or before the deadline. Only one application may be submitted per person. The applicant’s curriculum vitae should state all details of education and academic history, including credentials, publications, contributions, or other related achievements.

The personal statement should list academic career plans, motivation, and scientific interest. This should be no more than two pages long. It should address the following questions: When writing your personal statement, please make sure you answer the following questions: What are your scientific interests? How, where, and when did they develop? Which scientific fields are you particularly interested in and why? Why do you think BIMoS is the right choice for you? Which TUB-Professor would you like to have as your supervisor?

One official transcript should be submitted for every college or university that was attended. In addition, all applicants whose native language is not English should submit scores from the TOEFL, IELTS, or CAE.

In addition, it is the applicant’s responsibility to ask two scientists to send a letter of recommendation each to office@bimos.tu-berlin.de by January 7th, 2018. Letters of recommendation should be from individuals well-acquainted with the applicants line of work. Applications are considered incomplete of letters of recommendation are not received.
