A call for applications has now been released for the Newton International Fellowships. This project is funded by the British Academy, Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Royal Society. These awards provide significant funding for researchers to work at a UK institution for up to two years.

The goal of the program is to promote long lasting international collaborations and teamwork between the most promising early career postdoctoral researchers. Fellowships are open to researchers from a variety of disciplines, including the natural, medical, physical, and social sciences, as well as the humanities.

To be eligible, interested applicants must be between the ending state of their PhD programs and their seventh year of active full time postdoctoral experience. They should be early career researchers working outside the United Kingdom. United Kingdom citizens will not be considered. Applicants should, however, be proficient in English and have clearly defined, purposeful research proposals with host researchers.

Fellowships are awarded for up to two years, with an annual stipend of £24,000 per year. An additional £8,000 may be awarded for research expenses, along with a £2,000 payment for relocation costs. Some selected fellows may be eligible for follow-up funding after their fellowships to continue their networking and research activities.

The Newton Fund supports additional fellowships that help develop the long-term growth and wellbeing of partner countries. This is carried out through research and networking, and provides funding for research project application in Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and Turkey.

All applications must be received by March 27, 2018, with results announced approximately six months later. Selected fellows must be prepared to begin their programs between October 1 2018 and March 31, 2019. More information can be found on the Royal Society grants management system website.
