The admissions process at Ohio State is highly selective and selected students represent the very best characteristics of the campus. Individuals should prove that they are prepared for the academic rigor of the classroom, and that they are willing to lead and seek collaboration. Each application is reviewed thoroughly and evaluated based on a variety of criteria. Students will be evaluated based on:

• High school performance, evidenced by class rank and GPA (this includes participation in honors programs)
• Completion of university preparatory courses
• Standardized test scores (such as ACT or SAT)
• The ability to interact within a diverse college campus
• Leadership or co-curricular activities, which includes work or military service
• Status as a first-generation attendee
• Talent in a particular area
• Competitiveness and rigor of the high school program
• Eligibility for and likelihood of needing support services at Ohio State
• Interest in a designated major

Although Ohio State does not have designated standards when it comes to grades or test scores, most admitted students rank in the top quarter of their graduating classes (roughly 96 percent). These students also perform well on standardized tests, with fifty percent scoring between a 28 and 32 on the ACT or between 1310 and 1430 on the SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing + Math.

To apply, students should submit tests scores by November 1 or February 1, depending on intended deadline (Early Action or Regular Decision). The essay is not required as part of these tests. The application can be submitted via either the Common Application or Coalition Application formats. Official high school transcripts, letters of recommendation, TOEFL scores, and proof of financial support must also be supplied.
