The World Veterinary Association announces the availability of forty-one grants for veterinary students from Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania. In 2017, awards will be worth $5000 each and awarded to qualifying, promising students entering the field of veterinary medicine.
The goal of this program is to enhance the academic and professional experiences of exceptional veterinary students from around the world. The exemplary scholarship will help support the quality of education and training for potential global veterinarians.
The program will deliver sixteen grants to Latin American students, ten to African students, ten to North African and Middle Eastern students, and five to students from Asia/Oceania. To be eligible, students must be citizens of the countries receiving grant coverage. They should be second or third year veterinary students and have accomplished first-year exams.
Applications will be reviewed based on a particular scoring rubric. On their applications, students may indicate specializations including companion animal and equine, production animal, aquaculture, and poultry. Students will be selected who have the best ability to contribute to the promotion and development of animal health, animal welfare, public health, and overall benefit to the animals of the world.
Students should also be currently enrolled and in good standing at a recognized school of veterinary medicine in their home country. Applications, which can be submitted in English, French or Spanish, will be reviewed by the WVA Review Committee. The announcement of scholarship recipients will be delivered during the World Veterinary Association Congress in Barcelona, Spain. This will be done between May 5 and May 8 of 2018.
