The UCL Overseas Research Scholarship is available to high-quality international students seeking to undertake significant original and team-based research at UCL. Forty awards are granted per year.
Applicants must already have been admitted to, or registered at, UCL on a full- or part-time basis. This should be in relation to a research degree program. They will be liable to pay tuition fees at the overseas rate, either hold, or expect to hold at the time of origination, an upper second-class Honors UK undergraduate degree (or equivalent). Current UCL students may apply, but those entering their third year of research will be considered only in exceptional circumstances. Non-resident PhDs and Professional Doctorate students are not eligible for this scholarship program.
Scholarships will be awarded based on the degree of academic excellence. Those who demonstrate exceptional research potential will receive priority consideration, and financial ability will not be considered at all.
Awards will consist of fee funding sufficient to cover the difference between overseas and UK tuition fees. The award does not cover the Additional Fee Element of the program unless the student is also awarded a UCL GRS award. The scholarship is active for three years of a full-time MPhil/PhD/EngD degree program. This may apply during any year of study as long as the student does not receive the scholarship for more than three years. The scholarship will be renewed and reevaluated each year. Applicants should seek additional funding to secure living costs and other expenses.
To apply, students should submit an official application to a research degree program. This application will also be used as the scholarship application. A CV should also be supplied that lists all publications, prizes, wards, and scholarships. References from the most recently completed university degree should be supplied, as should academic transcripts. Finally, students should submit a summary of their research proposals, in a maximum of two hundred words.
All materials should by submitted by January 5, 2018. Questions may be directed to the University College London office at +44 (0)20 7679 2000.
