Qualified undergraduate applicants are encouraged to apply to Brown University. All applications may be submitted online via the Common Application, which guides each individual student through the process of supplying supporting credentials.
Once a student has created a profile on the Common Application website, he or she should add Brown University to the list of schools to which he or she is applying. Although the format for the application is generally the same regardless of academic program or background, some considerations are changed for students of particular majors.
For example, students interested in Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geology, Mathematics, or Physics must complete the Science/Engineering essays. Those applying to the eight-year program in Liberal Medical Education or the five year Dual Degree program with the Rhode Island School of Design must submit the special program essays. Other questions that are specific to Brown University, including the essays, are available via the Brown website.
Students must also submit the $75 application fee. This is nonrefundable, but application fee waivers are available to those who qualify. Students who qualify for the Federal Free or Reduced Price Lunch program may receive these waivers.
International students will generally follow the same admissions procedures as domestic undergraduate applications. They should have completed secondary school, or twelve to thirteen years of formal primary and secondary schooling. International applicants should also plan to sit for national and international examinations, such as the GCE A-levels or German Abitur.
All supplemental materials, such as official test scores, transcripts, and recommendations should be submitted through the Common Application. Otherwise, materials may be sent directly to Brown University’s Office of College Admission, though this is not recommended. English proficiency should also be demonstrated, either through the TOEFL or IELTS.
All materials must be received by January 1. Contact the Brown admissions team at www.brown.edu/admission for more information.
