The Facebook Fellowship Program is designed to encourage upcoming doctoral students who are involved in research in relevant topics such as computer science and engineering. These fellowships support these students as they pursue new areas of inquiry and develop insightful solutions to real-world problems.
Applicants are invited from candidates in any year of PhD study, but because fellows with research and publication records are preferred, those who are further along in their courses of study will be given preference. Applicants who are less advanced in their fields, or those who possess the criteria of minority groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the technology sector, may also be evaluated for Emerging Scholar Awards.
Fellows should be currently involved in ongoing research and be enrolled in any accredited university in any country. Work must be related to one or more relevant disciplines. Relevant disciplines include Applied Statistics, AR/VR Photonics and Optics, CommAI, Computational Social Science, Computer Vision, Compute Storage and Efficiency, Distributed Systems, Economics and Computation, Hardware and Software Infrastructure for Machine Learning, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Networking and Connectivity, Programming Languages, Security/Privacy, Spoken Language Processing and Audio Classification, and UX/Instagram Well-Being.
Each fellow will receive two years of full tuition and fee funding, as well as an annual stipend of $37,000 per year and $5,000 in conference travel support. All fellows will also receive paid visits to Facebook headquarters for the annual Fellowship Summit.
The application process will open on August 10, 2020 and end on October 2, 2020. To apply, candidates should submit a one- to two- page research summary which identifies the area of focus, as well as highlights its relevance to the field and to Facebook. Applicants must also submit a resume or CV with applicable contact information, as well as two letters of recommendation. One of these letters must be from an academic advisor. Questions about the application process or the program itself may be directed to facebookfellowship@fb.com.
