This year, as a component of the European Cultural Heritage Year 2018, the German cities of Osnabruck and Munster, Germany invites participants to join in a collaborative participation project, Lab Europe. This program takes place within the laboratories of the visual arts, music, media, history, and performance. These laboratories are designed to provide the opportunity for cultures to grow.
For example, the Art Lab will consider what young Europeans think about security, as well as how to address topics such as terrorism, flight, or climate change. Artists will be invited to devise an artistic position on the subject of security. The “Listeners” Lab will invite performers to overcome prejudices and design a program based on listening and communication regarding the future of Europe.
Each laboratory will have between eight and fifteen participants, each accompanied by professional partners like the Theater Osnabruck, the Society for Contemporary Arts Osnabruck, or the Museum of Cultural History. Results of laboratory work will be presented to the public on August 24th and 25th, 2018. Participants will be granted accommodations in a hotel near the city center of Osnabruck. In addition, all meals will be catered at a “lab center” for participants’ entire stays in the city.
This year, participants will participate in a ten-day exchange with other young Europeans, engaging in collaborative work as well as a cultural and leisure program. All costs related to travel, accommodation, and meals will be covered by the organization, but each accepted participant must pay a participation fee of 100 Euro in advance of the workshop.
All applications for Lab Europe must be received no later than May 15, 2018. Interested candidates should submit CVs, project outlines with proposed material and technical requirements, and specifications. Questions about individual lab requirements may be submitted to the individual lab sponsors. Materials may also be directed to lab.europe@osnabrueck.de. Notifications of application success will be sent by the end of May 2018.
