The International Rationality Summer Institute, funded by the VolkswagenStiftung, invites doctoral students and early-stage postdocs studying psychology, philosophy, cognitive neuroscience, economics, and related fields to apply for the 2018 program. This program is a twelve day event, running from September 2 to September 14.
This program, though designed for doctoral or postdoctoral candidates, may also be attempted by advanced, exceptional individuals holding only Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in relevant disciplines. Applicants must have an interest in researching human rationality, as well as a strong command of the English language. Application consideration will be given towards international diversity and interdisciplinary. Women and members from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants receive full stipends to cover participation fees, board, and lodging. Stipends may also be used to fund traveling expenses, though these funds may only be received after the program has ended. Visa application fees cannot be reimbursed.
Applications must be submitted in a single PDF document, in English. Applications are submitted and evaluated using the free program Easychair. In addition to a basic application form, candidates should also submit a statement of interest explaining their background and interest in the program. A Curriculum Vitae and scans of certificates (such as Master’s degree and PhD certificates) should be included as well. If documents are not in English, translations must be provided.
Candidates must also submit a detailed, broken-down estimate of travel expenses. A research project abstract should also be submitted, ideally one that connects the work of the applicant to the Summer Institute. This research will be presented at the Young Scientists’ Forum. Two letters of recommendation must also be supplied.
All materials must be sent by April 1, 2018, with notifications of decisions sent by April 15, 2018. Questions and applications can be directed to application@2018.irsi-school.de.
