The Chinese University of Hong Kong invites international applicants to its undergraduate programs. International applicants are those who need a visa or entry permit in order to study in Hong Kong. Mainland China students are not considered international students and must apply through the National Colleges and Universities Enrollment System. However, those are will not take Gaokao in 2018 are eligible to apply as international students if they have completed an overseas curriculum leading to an overseas qualification that qualifies them for admission to a university in the country where that qualification originated.
Students should apply if, by September 1 of the year in which admission is sought, they have received high school qualifications such as the GCE-AL or IB. all grades must be obtained within a twelve month period. Students may also be eligible if they have completed one year of undergraduate study at a university, or the equivalent of an associate degree or higher. The university also accepts applicants older than twenty-three years of age, provided that they can show by proof of publication or other evidence that they have attained competency in their chosen field of study.
Because programs are conducted in English, applicants are expected to have attained an acceptable level of proficiency in the English language. This is evidenced by a score of at least a 6.0 on the IELTS or an 80 on the TOEFL. Other acceptable exams include the SAT Reasoning Test Essay, ACT combined English/Writing, or SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.
Applicants should also submit a photocopy of their Hong Kong Identity Cards (or, alternatively, Dependent Visa, Passport, or Entry Permit), academic transcripts, examination results, and letters of recommendation from academic referees.
Applications will be reviewed based on the overall merit of their educational backgrounds and academic achievements. Interviews will also be conducted and evaluated accordingly. Applicants who meet specific requirements may be eligible to apply for Admission with Advanced Standing status. This status reduces the required amount of units for graduation.
Applicants who apply to the university before November 15, 2017 will be considered for advance offers. This unique opportunity enables successful applicants to receive a firm or conditional offer and to be notified by mid-January 2018. The regular application deadline is January 3, 2018.
