Choate Rosemary Hall, one of Connecticut’s finest preparatory schools, invites qualified students to apply for admission in 2019. The first step for any interested student or parent is to complete a request for information via the school’s website. GoChoate!, the school’s admission website, will guide students in creating a customized username and password that can be used throughout every step of the admission process. Once an inquiry is submitted, the admissions team can send the student a personally tailored packet of information about the school and application process.
Once the inquiry form is completed, it is recommended that all students schedule a tour and interview. These interviews may take place throughout the year, and some may be available in the student’s hometown, if requested. This, of course, is dependent on the schedule of the Admissions Department.
When ready to apply, students should log on to complete the remainder of the formal application through the GoChoate! Portal. Several sections of the application are mandatory, including the Applicant and Family Information Form, Personal Statement, Parent/Guardian Statements, and Applicant Interests. An additional $75 fee for American applicants, and $125 for international applicants, is also required.
In addition, candidates should be prepared to submit a school report including transcripts and current grades, as well as formal recommendations from current English and Mathematics teachers. Other recommendations may be submitted if so desired. Standardized test scores are also required. Ninth and tenth grade applicants should submit the SSAT or ISEE. Eleventh grade applicants should submit the ACT, preACT, SAT, PSAT, ISEE, or SSAT, while seniors and beyond should submit the SAT or ACT. Individuals who do not speak English as a native language should also submit results from the TOEFL or IELTS examination.
Admissions decisions are largely based on the entire student, and not on one specific aspect of his or her application. As a result, the admissions committee also prefers students to complete
and submit the Character Skills Snapshot, so that a better portrait may be painted of each applicant.
All application materials are due no later than January 10 of the desired year of admission. Applicants will be notified by March 10, and required to respond no later than April 10. Questions may be directed to the Admissions Office at admission@choate.edu.
