The Andover Phillips Academy invites exceptional students to apply for the 2018-2019 class of students. Prospective students, regardless of intended entry date, are encouraged to join the Philips mailing list to receive invitations to exclusive hometown events, as well as updates on the application process.
All applicants must take a standardized test prior to the stated application deadline. In addition to standardized tests, individuals who do not speak English as a native language should submit the Test of English as a Foreign Language or the IELTS. Applicants should also schedule an admissions tour and interview, and complete an online candidate profile. This is designed to be eventually submitted with the application and fee, and will be accepted by similar schools to help make the admissions process easier for the candidate.
The Andover application itself can be submitted through the institution’s’ online admissions portal. It consists of a candidate profile, short answers, essay, a copy of a recent writing assignment, and parent statement. Students should also be prepared to submit copies of current grades, as well as a school report and official transcript, current English and Math teacher recommendations, and a personal recommendation. The student must also submit a counselor recommendation, copies of standardized test scores, and an optional special interest recommendation. This latter item can help the admission committee be aware of any unique talents or involvements the student might have.
Each candidate is encouraged to interview on campus, as well as to apply for financial aid. Financial aid applications are due by February 1 along with Parent Financial Aid Statements. Candidates should also submit a Character Skills Snapshot. This is not mandatory, but helps the admissions team understand the candidate in a more multidimensional and deeper fashion. All application materials are due no later than February 1 of each year.
Phillips Academy is accessible to youth of every background, and as a result commits to meeting 100 percent of each student’s demonstrated financial need through scholarships and grants. Boarding tuition starts at $55,800 while day tuition is $43,300. In addition, each student should expect to submit an application fee of $40. This can be waived if financial hardship is evidenced in a formal fee waiver. Financial aid forms must be submitted every year, but grants and scholarships are renewed provided that there is continued demonstrated financial need.
