Harvard University Asia Center Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Asia Center at Harvard University annually offers two fellowships to promote intra- and inter-Asian research. The Asia Central Postdoctoral Fellowship attracts recent Ph.D. graduates whose work engages with a minimum of two Asian nations. Although research may fall within the borders of a single country, preference is given to applicants who work with comparative or cross-border projects.

On the other hand, the Victor and William Fung Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship is available to recent Ph.D. graduates whose work falls within two Asian countries but with the added contingency that the research includes a component dealing with China.

Fellowships provide funding for a ten-month period, starting September 1, 2018. This includes a stipend of $60,000, health insurance coverage, and up to $5,000 in research and travel funds. Fellows will also be granted shared office space, a Harvard email address, and full access to all resources at Harvard University, including libraries. Fellows must maintain residence in the Cambridge/Boston area, and participate regularly in Asia Center activities. Fellows must also give a presentation in the Asia Center Seminar Series.

To be eligible, fellows must have received their Ph.D. degrees in 2013 or later in any humanities, social science, or related field. Research may consist of single-country study, but preference is given to cross-border projects. To apply, applicants should submit a curriculum vitae that includes citizenship, current and permanent addresses, telephone number(s), email address; academic degrees with dates of conferral, discipline and institution, as well as languages.

Each applicant should also submit a cover letter and a statement of research in no more than two pages. This statement should include a thorough description of what will be done at each stage of research during the fellowship, as well as the resources that will be utilized. A transcript, dissertation abstract and table of contents, list of publications, and two letters of recommendation must also be supplied.
